Is tear trough filler the right treatment for you?
Do you constantly have tired-looking eyes despite getting plenty of good sleep? You stay well hydrated and have tried lots of different over-the-counter skin creams and products to try and remedy the problem, but they don’t seem to help. Tear trough filler may be the solution for you.
What are tear troughs?
The tear trough is the area under the eye, between your cheek and lower eyelid. Due to the natural ageing process, people commonly experience a loss of volume in this area. Other lifestyle factors, such as stress and weight loss, can further speed up this issue. The hollowness that forms under the eye can cause it to look darker than the rest of the face due to the shadowing effect. As a result, this can make the eyes look tired, sad, and aged.
Tear trough filler is a fantastic treatment for this specific issue. The treatment works by re-volumising the sunken area under the eyes using a low-density hyaluronic acid filler. By plumping out this depressed area under the skin, it effectively reduces the dark shadowing under the eye and instantly gives you brighter-looking, beautiful, refreshed-looking eyes. Some clients may also have a degree of volume loss in the cheek and may benefit from cheek filler as an adjunctive treatment. Treating the cheeks gives extra support to the under-eye area.
Are you a good candidate for tear trough filler?
During a consultation at Karwal Aesthetics, we analyse your under-eye area and establish whether you are a good candidate for this treatment. Clients with a large amount of undereye fat herniation or those with heavy bags may not be suitable, and this treatment can worsen the problem. These candidates may require surgical intervention-namely, a ‘lower blepharoplasty’.
Furthermore, clients with a large amount of hyperpigmentation (darkened skin) under the eye will not hugely benefit from this treatment. In those with hyperpigmentation, we recommend a combination of prescription-grade topical treatments from the Obagi range to help regulate melanin production in the skin. However, if you have hyperpigmentation and hollowing, you will still benefit from tear trough filler.
How do we perform the treatment?
We deposit the filler into the skin under the eye using a special piece of equipment called a cannula. As the tear-through skin is the thinnest on the face, we use the thinnest filler on the market called Teosyal Redensity 2. A topical anaesthetic is used to numb the area. However, the procedure is not very uncomfortable and is described as a pulling or pressure sensation. The procedure is extremely gentle, and most people experience minimal swelling, which usually clears up within a couple of days. Occasionally, some people can get a small bruise which resolves within a few days.
